Finds No. 4. A novel, paired with the tea its characters would pour.

An open book beside a cup of tea on a saucer in soft light

The most thoughtful gifts show that you were listening. A book-and-blend gift pairs a much-loved novel with a tea that belongs in its world, wrapped together with a handwritten note. It costs little, means a great deal, and is a joy to put together.

Pairings to start with

  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, with a gentle green tea, the kind widely drunk in Georgian drawing rooms.
  • The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, with a rose or floral black tea for a slow spring afternoon.
  • Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, with a warming cinnamon or spiced rooibos for a winter evening by the fire.
  • Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery, with a bright raspberry-leaf or berry tisane in honour of Anne and Diana’s famous tea party.
  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, with a smoky Lapsang Souchong for stormy moors and candlelit corridors.

How to put it together

  • Choose a lovely edition: a clothbound classic or a secondhand copy with history.
  • Add a small tin or pouch of the tea, enough for a few cups.
  • Write a short note on why you chose this pairing for this person.
  • Wrap it in brown paper and ribbon, and tuck a sprig of dried lavender or rosemary under the bow.

Why we love it

It’s an invitation as much as a gift: to slow down, put the kettle on and disappear into a story for an evening.
